Cork, 6th May, 2021 – Mr. Padraig Mac An Rí, Principal of Cork post-primary boys’ school Coláiste Chríost Rí today announced the school’s successful grant award of €4.5M funding under the Department of Education’s Provision of Additional Accommodation 2021 Scheme. The expansion project scheduled to commence later this year represents significant investment at the Turners Cross based school which on completion in 2024 will increase its student capacity by a further 25%.
The new state of the art facilities on campus will include:
- A suite of SEN (Special Educational Needs) classrooms,
- 1x Music room,
- 1x DCG (Design & Communications Graphics) room,
- 1x Art room,
- 1x Construction Studies/Preparatory area,
- 2x Project store rooms
Following the announcement, Mr. Mac An Rí commented that, “This is a landmark day for Coláiste Chríost Rí. This huge investment allows us to continue providing our students with an excellent education, broaden our curriculum and is in keeping with our commitment to encourage each student to discover and develop his own unique talents. On behalf of our expert teaching and support teams, I am excited by the great potential this project will provide to the families and communities we serve. Having experienced a significant 30% year on year increase in enrolment applications, this new provision will enable us to accept more students and more importantly offer them choice within the curriculum. Long established as a Catholic school in the Presentation Brothers tradition, Coláiste Chríost Rí is managed by a Board of Management, on whose behalf Chairperson Maria Walk also spoke today.
