Sports Complex
Integral to the school’s philosophy on health education is the school’s new sports complex.
The school has taken very progressive steps to actively pursue and promote the development of physical education beyond the students’ timetabled experience. Integral to the school’s philosophy on health education is the school’s new sports complex. Included in this fine development is state-of-the-art fitness studio which is fitted out with €100,000 of training equipment. The Hall itself is 60m long and 30m wide and boasts Basketball court approved for national league games and two smaller courts. Badminton, tennis and even hurdling are possible too.
Sporting Tradition
Our school is acknowledged as being the premier Cork school for Gaelic sports with a record number of Munster titles and 4 senior All-Ireland titles to its credit. It continues to provide players to Cork football and hurling teams. There is a long line of famous Chríost Rí sports personalities which include Billy Morgan, Ray Cummins, Martin Doherty, Jimmy Kerrigan, Paul Kerrigan, Derek Kavanagh and Joe Kavanagh, to name but a few.
On the soccer front there was dual player Dave Barry, Irish international Kieran O’ Regan, Manchester United and Ireland stalwart Denis Irwin, and current English Premier league player Damian Delaney.
Athletics is also very popular and the school is the current holder of a number of ‘Best School’ awards for its performances.
