Why Our School?
Coláiste Chríost Rí is an evolving inclusive Christian community committed to Catholic education in the Presentation Brothers’ tradition.
We pursue academic and sporting excellence within a unique Gaelic culture and tradition. Our Curriculum maintains a creative balance between preparation for the workplace and development of the person.
Catering for the abilities, needs and interests of our students is at the core of what we do in Coláiste Chríost Rí. We offer a broad range of subjects to engage and encourage the learning, growth and development of all our students. Subject choices range from the academic through to technical (practical), business, science and humanities. All levels catered for, and emphasis is put on developing in students a wide range of skills and knowledge to equip them for further education and life after secondary school.
We have an outstanding reputation and track record for academic and educational excellence over the last 60 years with scholarships and awards won every year by our students. 85% + of our Leaving Cert students go on to 3rd level education in UCC, CIT, UL, MIC and 3rd level colleges in Dublin. The development of student’s intellectual and physical potential, along with nurturing the talents and interests of each student is an integral part of the holistic education offered by Coláiste Chríost Rí. We plan and work very hard to ensure that our educational programmes are designed to offer students the most up to date and relevant knowledge/skills, which open up career paths and opportunities to them for their futures.
We offer a wide range of subjects and extra-curricular activities to cater for the individual needs of all students. We are very proud of the wide range of ethnic origins and nationalities within our student cohort. All our students are valued and respected for their individual talents, interests and abilities. SEN support is integrated into mainstream classes where possible. Student needs are assessed on an individual basis and their timetables are personalised to reflect this. Where possible Team Teaching is used to ensure students can remain in regular classes. Lessons are adapted and differentiated with a focus on effective questioning and assessment for learning.
The primary focus of the work of all the staff in Coláiste Chríost Rí is the development of the abilities, talents and skills of our students. We have a wonderfully talented team of teachers, who are at the cutting edge of developments in teaching and learning which contributes significantly to curricular development at local and national levels. Our teachers are very innovative and creative in ensuring the classes are challenging and engaging to encourage and inspire students to reach their full potential. We use the most up to date technology and techniques to ensure that students actively participate in learning and teaching and significantly contribute to their own learning and development.
The involvement of students in all aspects of school life is at the heart of all that we do in Coláiste Chríost Rí. Our programmes and activities are designed and planned in consultation with the students and our key focus at all times is the wellbeing and development of every student. We place great emphasis, and invest a lot of time and resources, in ensuring that we have the facilities and resources to meet all their needs. We give support and encouragement to all our students to play an active part in school life. Our primary role is to help them to achieve their goals, develop their talents, nurture their confidence and overcome challenges and difficulties that they may encounter.
Each member of the Coláiste Chríost Rí school community is encouraged to make a contribution to the life of our school. To enable our students in this regard, weekly meetings of our student support/pastoral care team ensure that each student has the supports necessary to meet all of his needs. In Coláiste Chríost Rí, a collaborative approach between the support / pastoral care team, the staff and school management ensures that we are aware of our students needs and that the supports put in place are tailored to meet those needs.
